Going along with the order of standard math levels, Algebra 1 is commonly taught in 9th grade. However, students in lower grades are still able to take the course if they would like to get a head start and possibly take college-level courses later on in high school.
Although this may vary, students will take Geometry after Algebra 1 in a typical math course sequence. But some schools may teach Algebra 2 right after Algebra 1 and then move on to Geometry.
If you fail Algebra 1 in 9th grade, you are able to retake the course in 10th grade. You may be behind in your math classes, so taking an online recovery course may be more beneficial. You just need to make sure you receive the credit to graduate.
Algebra 1 Regents is a three hour exam that tests students’ understanding of the Common Core Learning Standards for Algebra 1. Students will have to show their understanding of mathematical concepts like expressions, equations, statistics, probability, and functions. The exam is broken down into 4 parts, containing multiple choice questions and constructed response questions.
If you are confident in your math skills and are able to take Algebra 1 early on, you can take the course in 6th or 7th grade. By doing this, you would be able to take higher level, more advanced math courses in high school.
You can learn Algebra 1 on your own, using different online resources. It’s important to have a good understanding of the basic ideas and fundamental concepts of Algebra. You can find videos online with explanations and practice problems to work on.
